Karl Robert Eduard von Hartmann was a German philosopher, independent scholar, and writer. He is known for his work Philosophy of the Unconscious, published in 1869, which introduced the theory of the Unconscious. He developed a pessimistic interpretation of the "best of all possible worlds" concept in metaphysics. Von Hartmann was born in 1842 and died in 1906.
