Epictetus

Epictetus (c. 55 – 135 AD) was a Greek Stoic philosopher. He was born a slave at Hierapolis, Phrygia, which is now known as Pamukkale in Turkey. He lived in Rome until his banishment, after which he settled in Nicopolis in northwestern Greece, where he spent the remainder of his life. His philosophical teachings were recorded by his student Arrian in two works: the Discourses and the Enchiridion.
