Fernando Pessoa (Lisbon, 13 June 1888 - Lisbon, 30 November 1935) was a Portuguese poet identified with modernism, widely recognized as a leading figure of Portuguese-language literature. He also worked as a dramatist, essayist, translator, publicist, astrologer, inventor, businessman, commercial correspondent, literary critic and political commentator. He created a heteronymic system including Alberto Caeiro, Ricardo Reis, Álvaro de Campos, and Bernardo Soares.
