Saint Francis of Assisi, also known as Giovanni Francesco di Bernardone, was a Catholic deacon and preacher who lived from 1181 or 1182 until October 3, 1226. He was an Italian Catholic saint and a member of the religious order known as the Franciscans. He founded the Order of Friars Minor, a religious community within the Catholic Church. As a preacher, he was known for his teachings and his emphasis on poverty, humility, and service. His life and work had a lasting impact on Christian spirituality and religious practice.
