George S. Kaufman was an American playwright, theater director, producer, humorist, and drama critic. He wrote comedies, political satire, and several musicals, including works for the Marx Brothers. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1932 for the musical Of Thee I Sing and again in 1937 for the play You Can't Take It with You. He also won a Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical in 1951 for Guys and Dolls.
