Heracleon

1 standalone book

Heracleon was a Gnostic who flourished around AD 175, probably in southern Italy. He wrote the earliest known commentary on the Gospel of John, of which only fragmentary quotations survive. Clement of Alexandria described him as the most esteemed member of the school of Valentinus, and according to Origen he was in personal contact with Valentinus himself.
