Jean de Léry

Jean de Léry was an explorer, writer, and Reformed pastor born in Lamargelle, Côte-d'Or, France. He accompanied a group of Protestants to an island in the Bay of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he documented the first known transcriptions of native American music. He later wrote History of a Voyage to the Land of Brazil, based on his experiences in the colony. He died in 1613.
