John Wood Campbell Jr. was an American science fiction writer and editor. As editor of Astounding Science Fiction from late 1937 until his death, he is generally credited with shaping the Golden Age of Science Fiction. Isaac Asimov called Campbell "the most powerful force in science fiction ever." As a writer he published space opera under his own name and moody stories under the pseudonym Don A. Stuart, also writing as Karl Van Kampen and Arthur McCann. He lived from 1910 to 1971.
