King Solomon

2 standalone books

Solomon, also known as Jedidiah, was the monarch of ancient Israel and the son and successor of David, according to the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament. He was the penultimate ruler of an amalgamated Israel and Judah. The hypothesized dates of his reign are from 970–931 BCE. After his death, his son Rehoboam adopted a harsh policy towards the northern tribes, leading to the division of the Israelites into the Kingdom of Israel in the north and the Kingdom of Judah in the south. Solomon is credited with building the First Temple in Jerusalem, dedicating it to Yahweh. He is portrayed as wealthy, wise, and powerful, and is considered one of the 48 Jewish prophets. Solomon is also the subject of later references and legends, including the Testament of Solomon, part of the first-century biblical apocrypha.
