Lat, born Mohammad Nor bin Mohammad Khalid in 1951, is a Malaysian cartoonist who has published more than 20 volumes of cartoons since the age of 13. His work chiefly depicts Malaysia's social and political scenes in a comedic light, and his best-known book is The Kampung Boy (1979), which has been published in several countries. He won the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize in 2002, and in 1994 the Sultan of Perak bestowed on him the honorific title of datuk in recognition of his work promoting social harmony.
