About “The Kampung Boy”
The Kampung Boy is a graphic novel by Malaysian cartoonist Lat, based on his own childhood experiences in rural Perak, Malaya, during the 1950s. The story follows a young boy's life, including his adventures in the jungle and tin mines, his circumcision, family, and school. It was first published in 1979 by Berita Publishing and became a commercial and critical success. The book was later adapted into an animated series in 1999 and a musical theatre production in 2011.
