Lodovico Ariosto

Ludovico Ariosto (1474–1533) was an Italian poet, best known as the author of the romance epic Orlando Furioso (1516–1532). A continuation of Matteo Maria Boiardo's Orlando Innamorato, the poem follows Charlemagne, Orlando, and the Franks in their wars against the Saracens, branching into many subplots and turning into a satire of the chivalric tradition. Ariosto composed it in the ottava rima rhyme scheme and wove narrative commentary throughout.
