Louis Pergaud was a French novelist, war poet, and soldier known for his works featuring animals of the Franche-Comté in lead roles. His most notable work was the novel La Guerre des boutons, published in 1912, which has been reprinted more than 30 times and is included on the French high-school curriculum. He was born in 1882 and died in 1915.
