Marquis de Sade

6 standalone books

Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade was a French nobleman and writer known for his controversial works that explored themes of sexuality, philosophy, and power. He authored novels, short stories, plays, and political writings, some of which were published under his name while others appeared anonymously, with Sade denying authorship. His most notable works are erotic novels that blend philosophical ideas with explicit content, often featuring violence, criminal behavior, and criticism of the Catholic Church. He advocated for personal freedom without moral or religious constraints. Sade spent approximately 32 years in various prisons and an asylum, including 10 years in the Bastille. Many of his writings were created during his imprisonments. The term "sadism" originates from his name.
