Patrick O'Brian

Patrick O'Brian was a British novelist born in 1914 who spent much of his adult life in France, writing across multiple genres before finding enduring fame as a historical fiction author. He is best known for the twenty-volume Aubrey-Maturin series, set during the Napoleonic Wars and following the adventures of Royal Navy captain Jack Aubrey and his friend ship's surgeon Stephen Maturin. O'Brian died in 2000, widely celebrated for his meticulous research and richly drawn characters that brought the age of sail vividly to life.
