Philip Jose Farmer (1918-2009) was an American author, principally known for award-winning science fiction and fantasy novels and short stories, especially the World of Tiers (1965-93) and Riverworld (1971-83) series. He was noted for pioneering use of sexual and religious themes and for reworking pulp hero lore, as well as for his Wold Newton family group of books tying classic fictional characters together as real people and blood relatives from an alien conspiracy.
