Plutarch, born Plutarchos in Greek (Πλούταρχος), later known as Lucius Mestrius Plutarchus after becoming a Roman citizen (Μέστριος Πλούταρχος), lived from approximately AD 46 to between AD 119 and 127. He was a Greek historian, biographer, essayist, and Middle Platonist, best known for his works Parallel Lives and Moralia. Born into a prominent family in Chaeronea, a town in Boeotia located about twenty miles east of Delphi, Plutarch's writings have remained influential in the fields of history and philosophy. He died sometime between AD 119 and 127.
