Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) was a Bengali poet, philosopher, and polymath who reshaped his region's literature and music. He authored Gitanjali, praised by the Nobel Foundation for its "profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse," and became the first non-European Nobel laureate, winning the 1913 Prize in Literature.
