About “Gora”

Gora is a novel by Rabindranath Tagore set in Calcutta during the 1880s under British rule. It is the fifth novel Tagore wrote and the longest of his twelve novels. The story explores philosophical debates on politics and religion, as well as themes such as liberation, universalism, brotherhood, gender, caste, class, tradition versus modernity, and the tensions between the urban elite and rural peasants. It also addresses colonial rule, nationalism, and the Brahmo Samaj. The novel is written in Bengali.
