Robert Musil was an Austrian writer born on 6 November 1880 in St. Ruprecht bei Klagenfurt and died on 15 April 1942 in Geneva. He wrote novels, novellas, plays, essays, and critiques. His literary work was influenced by the First World War and the establishment of Nazi rule in Germany and Austria. His first work, Die Verwirrungen des Zöglings Törleß, was published in 1906 and is often used as school reading. His major work, Der Mann ohne Eigenschaften, which includes autobiographical elements, was written from the 1920s until his death but was never completed.
