Robert Sheckley (July 16, 1928 – December 9, 2005) was an American writer known for his work in science fiction. He was first published in science-fiction magazines during the 1950s. His stories and novels were characterized by their quick wit, unpredictability, and absurdist humor. Sheckley was nominated for Hugo and Nebula Awards. In 2001, he was named Author Emeritus by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.
