Roberto Bolaño Ávalos (Santiago, April 28, 1953 – Barcelona, July 15, 2003) was a Chilean writer and poet. He authored more than twenty books, including the novel Los detectives salvajes, which won the Herralde Prize in 1998 and the Rómulo Gallegos Prize in 1999. His posthumous novel 2666 is also among his notable works.
