S. E. Hinton

1 standalone book

Susan Eloise Hinton is an American writer best known for her debut novel, The Outsiders, published when she was 17 years old. Her publisher advised her to use her initials instead of her full name to avoid potential bias from book reviewers who might dismiss the novel due to her gender. She continued using her initials throughout her career, partly due to the success of her first book and partly because she preferred to remain out of the public spotlight. In 1979, Hinton received the Margaret Edwards Award, the first of its kind, presented by the Young Adult Library Services Association for literature that captures the experiences of teenagers. That same year, The Outsiders was named the best novel by the New York Times. Hinton currently lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with her husband.
