Sir James Percy FitzPatrick, known as Percy FitzPatrick, was a South African author, politician, mining financier, and pioneer of the fruit industry. He was born on 24 July 1862 and died on 24 January 1931. FitzPatrick is best known for his children's book Jock of the Bushveld, published in 1907. As a politician, he supported British Imperial interests before and during the Anglo-Boer War. He also played a role in establishing the two-minute silence observed on Armistice Day. FitzPatrick was a businessman and writer who contributed to South African cultural and historical contexts.
