Sylvia Plath (1932-1963) was an American poet, novelist, children's author, and short story author. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she was educated at Smith College and Newnham College, Cambridge, where she met poet Ted Hughes, whom she married in 1956. The couple settled in England and had two children before separating in 1962. She suffered from clinical depression for most of her adulthood and lost her life to it in 1963.
