Victorien Sardou

2 standalone books

Victorien Sardou was a French dramatist who is best remembered for his development, along with Eugène Scribe, of the well-made play. He wrote several plays that were adapted into 19th-century operas, including La Tosca, which inspired Puccini's Tosca, and Fédora and Madame Sans-Gêne, which formed the basis for operas by Umberto Giordano. His play Gismonda was also adapted into an opera of the same name, as was Patrie! by Émile Paladilhe. Sardou was born in 1831 and died in 1908.
