Yevgeny Ivanovich Zamyatin, sometimes anglicized as Eugene Zamyatin, was a Russian author who wrote in the genres of science fiction, philosophy, literary criticism, and political satire. He is best known for his dystopian novel "Мы" (We), published in 1921. The novel influenced later works, including George Orwell's recognition that Aldous Huxley's Brave New World (1932) was partly inspired by We. Kurt Vonnegut acknowledged that he borrowed the plot of Player Piano (1952) from Brave New World, which in turn had been influenced by We. Zamyatin lived from 1884 to 1937.
