Yuien was a monk of the Jodo Shinshu sect active in Japan's Kamakura period. Several monks of the same name existed in that era; one, Kawawada no Yuien, is generally credited as the author of the religious text Tannishō, though this is not certain, and he lived in Hitachi Province.
