Syn has kept his secret life as a mercenary hidden from the Black Dagger Brotherhood. When he takes a job, he encounters Jo Early, a half-breed unaware of her true nature. She is drawn to a mysterious man, but feels something is wrong. Meanwhile, Butch O'Neal, destined as the Dhestroyer, faces the Omega's end. He gains an unexpected ally in Syn, but doubts his trustworthiness. As the war with the Lessening Society intensifies, Jo becomes involved in the conflict. She must join Syn and the Brotherhood to fight against true evil. The story ends with questions about whether love or prophecy will determine the outcome.
