About “A Prayer for Owen Meany”
John Irving's 1989 novel begins with the narrator recalling Owen Meany, a boy with a wrecked voice who is central to the story. The novel centers on two eleven-year-old boys who are best friends. During a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire, one boy hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother.
