About “A Room of One's Own”

A Room of One's Own is an essay by Virginia Woolf, first published on 24 October 1929. It originated from a series of lectures she gave at Newnham College and Girton College, women's colleges at Cambridge University, in October 1928. Though the essay uses a fictional narrator and narrative to examine women as writers and characters in fiction, it is classified as non-fiction. The work is widely regarded as a feminist text, arguing for both physical and metaphorical space for women within a literary tradition shaped by male dominance.
