About “Voyage Out”
"The Voyage Out" by Virginia Woolf follows Rachel, a young English woman, on a sea voyage from London to the South American city of Santa Marina. The journey serves as a metaphor for Rachel's inner exploration as she seeks to understand herself after the loss of her mother. She turns to her aunt Helen for guidance, and the two grow close. Rachel experiences a moment of self-realization, feeling a deep connection to her own identity. She falls in love with an Englishman named Terence, but she falls ill and dies shortly after. Despite her short time with Helen and Terence, her journey leaves a lasting impact on them.
