The story encompasses moments in the history of imperial ventures, including Raleigh's final expedition to the New World, Francisco Miranda's invasion of South America, the actions of the mid-twentieth-century English writer Foster Morris, and the experiences of Blair, the black Trinidadian revolutionary.
