About “Aag Ka Darya”
Aag Ka Darya is a historical Urdu-language novel written by Qurratulain Hyder. It provides context for the partition of the Indian subcontinent into two nation-states and is considered one of the Indian Subcontinent's best-known novels. The story spans more than two thousand years, beginning with the time of Chandargupta Maurya in the fourth century BC and continuing through the post-Independence period in India and Pakistan. The novel was published in Urdu in 1959 and later translated by the author into English in 1998 under the title River of Fire. In 2019, it was reprinted by New Directions Publishing.
