When Laurie Kenyon, a twenty-one-year-old student, is accused of murdering her English professor, Allen Grant, she has no memory of the crime, though her fingerprints are found on the door, curtains, and knife used in the killing. Laurie, who was kidnapped at the age of four and subjected to two years of abuse and incarceration, has developed multiple personalities, including a host personality named Laurie who is unaware of "Leona," a separate identity that had written crazed love letters to Allen Grant.
