About “American notes”

Charles Dickens wrote a travelogue in 1842 documenting his trip to the United States, which included travel through the Great Lakes states. The book begins and ends with accounts of his travels in the eastern United States. It also includes chapters on slavery and his journey back to England. The sections on western travel have chapter headings that describe his journey from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati by steam-boat, then from Cincinnati to Louisville and St. Louis. Other chapters cover a trip to the Looking-glass prairie and a stage-coach ride from Cincinnati to Columbus and Sandusky, followed by a trip by Lake Erie to the Falls of Niagara.
