About “Great Expectations”

Great Expectations is a novel by Charles Dickens, his thirteenth book and penultimate completed work. It follows the life of an orphan named Pip, told through a first-person narrative. The story was first published as a serial in 1860 and 1861 and later released in three volumes. Set in Kent and London during the early to mid-19th century, the novel begins with Pip meeting the escaped convict Abel Magwitch in a graveyard. It features vivid scenes and characters, including the eccentric Miss Havisham, the beautiful Estella, and Joe, a kind blacksmith. The story explores themes such as wealth and poverty, love and rejection. It has remained popular and has been adapted into many forms of media.
