Anthem is a novel by Ayn Rand set in a dystopian future where individuality is forbidden. The story follows a man who lives in a society that suppresses personal identity, naming, and independent thought. He defies this system by loving a woman of his choosing and seeking knowledge, which are seen as crimes. However, the true reason he is hunted is because he asserts his individuality, separating himself from the collective. He is condemned for being alone.
