About “Anthropologie in pragmatischer Hinsicht”
Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View is based on the last lectures Immanuel Kant gave on anthropology, a subject he taught from 1772 until 1796. The work was published in 1798 and was the largest first printing of any of Kant's writings. Aimed at a general audience, it presents Kant's contributions to the developing field of anthropology and his effort to provide students with a practical understanding of the world and human nature. The text focuses on what a free human being makes of himself and applies key elements of Kant's philosophy. This edition includes a new annotated translation by Robert B. Louden and an introduction by Manfred Kuehn that examines the context and themes of the lectures.
