Viktor Suvorov's Aquarium is an autobiographical account of his time in the Soviet military intelligence, known as the GRU. He joined the GRU after being promoted within the Soviet Army, and his work involved espionage and sabotage training. Suvorov describes the intense training, the pressure of fieldwork, and the dangers of being sent home in disgrace or worse. He also reveals the secret operations he conducted in Europe, many of which were tests of his loyalty. His time in the GRU was marked by deep doubts about his role. Suvorov eventually defected to the West and later wrote about his experiences. Aquarium offers a detailed and ironic look at life within the GRU.
