About “Icebreaker”
Icebreaker: Who Started the Second World War? is a 1989 history book by Russian author Viktor Suvorov. The book claims that Joseph Stalin had planned to conquer Europe and was preparing a surprise attack on Nazi Germany in the summer of 1941. Suvorov argues that Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union, was a pre-emptive strike by Adolf Hitler, a theory Hitler himself had promoted. Since the 1990s, the book has gained some support among historians in post-Soviet and Central European countries. However, many Western scholars have criticized Suvorov's arguments for lacking sufficient evidence and documentation. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
