Brain Wave is Poul Anderson's 1954 debut science fiction novel, premised on the idea that the solar system had, for millions of years, been caught in a force field suppressing intelligence. When the solar system breaks free, human and animal intelligence surges, dramatically transforming society and its institutions, while some who refuse to accept the change band together to rebel against the new order.
