In 1345, Sir Roger Baron de Tourneville is preparing to join King Edward III in war against France when a massive silver ship lands in a pasture near the village of Ansby in northeastern Lincolnshire. The ship belongs to the Wersgorix, a race skilled in conquering planets. They assess Earth as suitable for invasion and begin their standard conquest process. However, this time, they face free Englishmen. Only one alien remains alive, and Sir Roger plans to use the ship to aid his king and later fight in the Holy Land. He fails to realize the alien pilot's treachery, as the pilot takes the ship to his home planet, believing the English will surrender. He underestimates the determination and cleverness of the English.
