About “Calculating God”
Calculating God is a science fiction novel by Robert J. Sawyer set in the near future. An alien spacecraft lands near the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, and the alien inside speaks perfect English, asking to meet a paleontologist. The alien and another species believe that the same five major cataclysmic events occurred on their planets and Earth, which they interpret as proof of God's existence. The story explores the implications of this belief and the challenges it faces on Earth. As a nearby supernova threatens all three planets, the question arises: will God intervene, or is this the sixth catastrophe? The novel is a thought-provoking and expanding science fiction narrative. It was nominated for the 2001 Hugo Award for Best Novel.
