About “Chevrefoil”

"Chevrefoil" is a Breton lai written by the medieval poet Marie de France. It is the eleventh poem in her collection titled The Lais of Marie de France and is based on an episode from the romance of Tristan and Iseult. The title translates to "honeysuckle," a symbol of love used in the poem. The lai consists of 118 lines and survives in two manuscripts: Harley 978 (MS H), which contains all the Lais, and Bibliothèque Nationale, nouv. acq. fr. 1104 (MS S).
