About “Lanval”

Lanval is one of the Lais of Marie de France, written in Anglo-Norman. It follows the story of Lanval, a knight at King Arthur’s court who is ignored by the king. He is courted by a fairy lady, who gives him many gifts. He refuses the advances of Queen Guinevere. When the queen accuses him of having no desire for women, he breaks his promise not to reveal his mistress. Arthur demands that he name her, and the fairy lady appears to defend him. She takes him to Avalon. The tale was adapted into English under different names. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
