Circe is a novel by Madeline Miller published in 2018. It tells the story of Circe, a daughter of Helios, the sun god and a Titan. Unlike her powerful father or alluring mother, Circe is different. She turns to mortals for friendship and discovers her talent for witchcraft, which allows her to transform enemies into monsters and challenge the gods. Zeus exiles her to a remote island, where she develops her magical skills, tames animals, and meets figures from Greek mythology, such as the Minotaur, Daedalus, Icarus, Medea, and Odysseus. As she faces threats from both humans and gods, Circe must decide where she truly belongs—among the gods or the mortals she has come to care for. The novel explores themes of power, love, and female strength.
