About “Claude Bite”
"Claude Gueux" is a short story written by Victor Hugo in 1834. It is regarded as one of the earliest examples of true crime fiction. The story reflects Hugo's early views on social injustice, themes he would later expand upon in his novel Les Misérables. The work was so valued for its educational message that Charles Carlier, a merchant and editor of the Revue de Paris, arranged for copies to be sent to all French deputies.
