About “De civilitate morum puerilium”
On Civility in Children is a handbook written by Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam. It is considered the first treatise in Western Europe on the moral and practical education of children. First published in 1530, it was addressed to Henry of Burgundy, an eleven-year-old boy. The book provides simple Latin instructions on how a boy should behave in the presence of adults. It was immediately popular and was translated into many languages. The first English translation, titled A Little Book of Good Manners for Children, was published in 1532 by Robert Whittinton. A second English version by Thomas Paynell was released in 1560. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
