About “De finibus bonorum et malorum”
De finibus bonorum et malorum is a philosophical work by the Roman orator and philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero. It is a Socratic dialogue that includes three dialogues spread over five books. The work examines the philosophical views of Epicureanism, Stoicism, and the Platonism of Antiochus of Ascalon. Each philosophical system is presented in its own book and then challenged in the following book. The text was written in the summer of 45 BC and took about one and a half months to complete. Along with Tusculanae Quaestiones and Academica, it is one of Cicero's most extensive philosophical writings. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
